Drawings and Journals

Leonardo da Vinci kept notes and drawings
of his studies in which over 7,000 survived.
The journal was kept on various sizes of
loos leaf paper. It is said Leonardo carried
small note paper with him in order to record
his observations of the outdoors.

Through drawings such as Embryo of the Womb,
Leonard shows his interest and knowledge of human development.

With the invention of the printing press, Leonardo
could have printed his journals but he did not.
However, he did own many printed books himself.
One rumor is he may have been secretive about his
journals.

Leonardo's journal notes and drawings ranged from
theories, inventions, and his appreciation of nature.
His journal entries show how he always searched
for more knowledge.

Although Leonardo may be best known for
his paintings of Mona Lisa and The Last Supper,
through his drawings and journals we can still
appreciate this true genius today.
